picture-of-syrian-refugee-goes-viral-campaign-for-him-raises-over-50k-dollarsIn a technologically advanced world with social media available at the blink of an eye, finding a man in a photograph wasn’t a very tough job. The man in question is a Syrian refugee, whose picture cradling his daughter of four went viral earlier this week.

This man, Abdul, was hawking pens on the street, carrying his sleeping daughter with him, when the picture was clicked. Shared by over a million people, the picture reached Icelandic activist Gissur Simonarson who launched a campaign to find him.

Within a few days, it was found that he was taking shelter at a Yarmouk refugee camp which was “ravaged by typhoid, warfare, and limited aid”. The father of two was contacted and an Indiegogo campaign was launched to help him and his family “start a new life”. Over $58,000 has been raised ($2500 per hour) so far confirming that “humanity isn’t lost just yet”.
