Vijayawada which was the front runner to be Andhra Pradesh Capital till couple of days ago is suddenly losing out in the race. Siva Rama Krishnan committee which was formed to suggest the best possible location for Andhra Pradesh state capital in its report clearly stated that capital between Vijayawada and Guntur will not be feasible due to economic and environmental reasons. On the other side, Chandra Babu Naidu and his government is keen to have the state between Vijayawada and Guntur and thus there is a deadlock.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the Central government will have to bear the entire costs involved in building the capital. There is no logical explanation why the central government will agree for the huge cost involving Chandra Babu Naidu’s choice rather than the cheaper Siva Rama Krishnan committee’s choice. However the committee and Union government had committed that the state government will have the final choice in choosing the state capital. The Andhra Pradesh Capital announcement may take place some time in September.
