Telangana-KCR PowerTelangana government’s image is tarnished to a great extent due to the ongoing Power Crisis in the state. The Chief Minister is repeatedly claiming that he explained the situation clearly to the power even before the elections but people toiling under the heavy power cuts are not buying the excuse. As pressure is being exerted from all the quarters on the government, KCR had decided to bite the bullet to escape these problem. However the bullet is going to be a very costly one for Telangana.

Telangana government has decided to enter in to an agreement with the power surplus Chhattisgarh government to buy 1000 MW Power from them. Currently there are no transmission lines from Chhattisgarh to Telangana and those lines have to be laid at the expense of 3000 Crore by the Telangana government. If Telangana become Power sufficient or Power Surplus in future as claimed by the KCR government. These lines will be of no use or very little use especially as the major infrastructure changes will have to be made in Chhattisgarh. New Substatons have to be constructed in both the states and majority will be in Chhattisgarh at the expense of Telangana money.

Importantly these transmission lines work will only be completed in 3 years and the purchased power can be brought to the state only after three years. If KCR’s claims of Telangana being power sufficient or surplus are true, then there is no point in buying power from Chhattisgarh. Experts say that buying power from Chhattisgarh is just costly face saving attempt by the government to ease the pressure on them and it may not be a wise decision given the exorbitant amount being put it. KCR along with the Power officials will be visiting Chhattisgarh on November 2nd and will sign MOU for the power purchase
