suriya masss movie title changedEven Rajnikanth’s ‘Robo’ had to change its title to ‘Enthiran’ to avail the tax benefits from Tamil Nadu government. There is a rule according to which only films with Tamil titles can be benifitted from tax exemption from the State government. Hence, many films which actually start with a working title in English, towards the release date, go for a title change.

Coming to Suriya’s upcoming movie ‘Masss’ (Rakshasudu in Telugu), the makers had no other way but to change the title. Of course, they have done it so neatly and in an intelligent manner that the original title ‘Masss’ is retained and a tag is added ‘Engira Massilamani’ and then Suriya’s movie name became ‘Masss Engira Massilamani’.

Massilamani is the name of the character Suriya is playing in the movie. Well, we have seen many such title changes recently like Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ok Kanmani’ changed to ‘Ok Kadhal Kanmani’. Only films that are sure to get U/A or A certified opt for an English title, otherwise any ‘U’ certified movie with Tamil title is eligible for entertainment tax exemption. So director Venkat Prabhu cleverly got the deal on his side. What say?
