Social media was supposed to bring people together but experts say that it is having adverse effect on Chinese people by killing their marriages. According to a report by the ministry of civil affairs in June found that 3.637 million couples divorced in 2014, up by 3.9 per cent from the previous year.
China is witnessing continuous rise in divorces since 2002 and experts say this coincides with the rise of social networking sites. They say many people on social media are involving in extra martial affairs which is the root case of such marriage failures.
In some cases, social networking sites are also dismantling an already fragile marriage.However some say it is not the effect of social media but younger generation’s reckless attitude towards marriage is the reason for most divorces.
