Annadaanam (offering food to the needy) is considered the greatest kind of donation according to Hindu scriptures. For people who are starving; money and luxuries doesn’t make much sense. What they need is, two square meals per day. And for Andhra people, serving avakay (pickle) is nothing less than any festival meal. Leave about avakay, many Hudhud victims couldn’t get a handful of rice to eat during the turbulent times.
Donations poured in to help the needy. But those who served food and drinking water would never be forgotten. Out of those generous hearts, singer Smitha certainly stands out from the crowd. Besides donating Rs.7 lakhs, the singer distributed lemon rice packets and 1000 kgs avakay during the relief operations.
