What is the film about?
The promos might impression of something fresh and grand but fear not, its the same old story. Hero taking revenge on the villain for a personal loss that he has undergone due to the villain.
How is Suriya’s performance?
Suriya is fine as usual. He fights, romances, mouths dialogues and acts cool throughout as required by the character. There is a little problem though, Suriya despite his best efforts lacks the gravitas requires for playing a ‘bhai’ kind of character. He is somewhat lacking on that larger than life screen presence, otherwise he is fine as we have said.
Direction By Lingusamy?
Director Lingusamy is not known to make path breaking films. He is a commercial director who is known to make paced entertaining commercial movies that are high on action and have good music as bonus. Unfortunately the director fails on all those counts in the film. The screenplay lets him down. It is patchy and boring bereft of any sort of joy at all. The director even doesn’t put any effort to surprise the audience as well. It is basically a straight forward story that is narrated through a back and forth format. With almost three hours of length one would expect few scenes to stand out but even that is not the case which highlights the poor state of affairs we are dealing with.
Samantha and others performance?
Samantha has nothing really here performance wise, all she gets to do here is look as glamorous as possible which she does with aplomb. She even dons a bikini in the film. Vidyut Jamwal gets a good character in terms of narrative. The film is all about him but there is nothing to show in terms of performance though. Manoj Bajpayee has even smaller time. He is good in the introduction scene and that’s the best that can be said about him. Soori as Taxi Driver fails to provide laughs. And finally, once again in a Tamil dubbed film we have the worst use ever done of Brahmanandam.
Music by Yuvan and other departments?
Yuvan Shankar Raja has been not in form off late. The music in the film is example of this. Yuvan has given only one really good song while the rest are passable. Even the background is too loud. Editing is poor, the film needs lots of trimming. Cinematography is by legend Santosh Sivan. His touch however is visible in only few scenes. Choreography of songs is colorful. Dialogues are poor.

Alternative take:
The film first and foremost needs to be trimmed. There are a number of scenes which could have been effective with proper editing. Also the plot involving the main conflict with hero and the villain needs to be presented in a better manner with a much better climax. Sikindar unfortunately is one of those films where many things have gone wrong and if an alternative take needs to be taken, we could be looking at a film that has nothing in common with the current film.
