loan-waiverAndhra Pradesh Government’s major poll promise scheme, Loan Waiver to farmers has reached a crucial stage. The bankers have so far submitted the list of 78.5 Lakh loan accounts to the government. The entire work is not completed by government’s deadline on Friday and the bankers have sought one more day extension. By the end of the day today, the entire data will be handed over to the government.

According to sources, out of these 78.5 Lakh accounts, there are no Aadhar Cards for 18 Lakh accounts. The government will filter all the duplicates and prepare the final lists from Monday. The government wants to complete the final lists and display them in all bank branches and on websites from November 5th to 10th. If there are any discrepancies due to non submission of Aadhar, Pass books etc those details will be refurnished by banks there in itself.

If every thing goes well, the government is planning to disburse the amounts to farmers’ bank accounts through Andhra Pradesh Farmers Empowerment Corporation. Initially, the Corporation would clear to the extent of 20% of farmers’ loans to banks in this financial year and later in four annual installments. Loan Waiver to farmers and women self help groups is one of the flagship schemes of Telugu Desam Party in the last elections. After coming to power, there is tremendous pressure on Chandra Babu to deliver it even though the state is reeling under the pressure of bifurcation.
