Posh Area of Hyderabad running after Water TankersForget about the slums which have water for every two days, even the posh areas of Hyderabad such as Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Somajiguda and Ameerpet are depending on water tankers to meet their daily water requirements. Experts have found that the groundwater levels in the city depleting alarmingly. If not for the rains, the condition would have been even worse.

Water Board officials say the demand for water tankers in the city had risen by 20% when compared to the last year. Almost zero monitoring of bore-wells which resort to heavy extraction and haphazard rainfall patterns are depleting the ground water levels. According to the government figures, water levels on an average have gone down to 17.5 metres from 20 metres in the city last year.

The shortfall of ground water can be extensively witnessed in places where apartments and commercial complexes have mushroomed and so the scarcity is hitting the posh areas more than any other place in the city. Even at this water emergency, the government pays no heed to educate people about water harvesting techniques which replenish the ground water levels.
