PIO is now life time Visa - New rules in place

Narendra Modi made a promise to the overwhelming crowd cheering him at Madison Square garden in New York during his US visit few days ago that he will review PIO card (Person of Indian Origin) validity which comes with 15 years expiry.

Few days after PM’s promise, A gazette notification was issued stating that PIO card is now a life time visa. Also according to the latest gazette, POI card holders no longer required to report to the police and complete FRRO/FRO forms, even if their stay extends more than 180 days in India. This new development is expected to help about 50 Lakh PIOs.

PMO also clarified that Ministry of Home Affairs is still working on merging OCI (Overseas citizens of India) with PIO. New guidelines on Visa-on-Arrival and 10 year visit visa for US Citizens will be out soon.
