pataas review kalyan ramWhat is the film about?
How a corrupt police officer Kalyan (Kalyan Ram) realizes his mistake and makes amends for it is the basic storyline presented in a typical but full-on masala fun.

How is Kalyan Ram’s performance?
A hero like Kalyan Ram is as good as the material on hand which means to say he is good if the material is good. In case of Pataas he gets a good material and it shows in his performance as well. There are his regular weaknesses on display like his dialogue delivery for example but the entertainment aspect overshadows it all. Overall it is a good outing for Kalyan Ram, after a while.

pataas review anil ravipudiDirection by Anil Ravipudi ?
Anil Ravipudi makes a good directorial debut with Pataas. The debutant manages to engage us with commercial entertainment throughout its duration. Good dialogues are racy screenplay are the biggest asset in this endeavour. It is difficult to tell which of the two halves is better here because there are parts in both halves that drag a bit but there is enough going on at the same time that keep us engaged as well. The first half of the first half and the climax fall into that category but the fast paced narration makes one get over them quickly. Also hero elevation is an important part in films like these, which has also been neatly worked out.

pataas review shruthi sodhiOther artist’s performance?
Shruti Sodhi has a good character, playing a journalist but there is nothing else performance wise for her beside the character. It is Sai Kumar who once again manages to create an impression with his act. Even Aushutosh Rana is good as long as he is his restrained self. There are number of comedians but the one who shines above all is Srinivas Reddy. Late MS Narayana continues his spoof act but it hasn’t come out as well as one would expect. Jayaprakash on the other hand in his limited scenes makes a mark. Jhansi, Sameer, Shakalaka Shankar etc are okay while Posani is decent.

pataas review sai karthikMusic and other departments?
Music by Sai Karthik is strictly average. Couple of numbers are good onscreen with the remix of Arey O Samba being a hoot. Background score is good. Editing is okay and cinematography is neat. Dialogues as said above are a big plus.

pataas review drawbacksAlternative take:
As far as a regular commercial entertainer in Telugu cinema goes this is par for the course. May be a different commercial star would have made this a much bigger entertainer with his gravitas. A stronger villain to hero confrontation is another things that goes for a toss as the film gets nearer to the end with the villain turning out to be a complete joke. This is something that could be bettered.

Did I enjoy it?
Yes.

Will you recommend it?
Yes, to all commercial masala cinema lovers.
