The upcoming Metro Rail project in Andhra Pradesh will be only confined to Vijayawada City. AP Metro Rail Advisor Sridharan in his preliminary report stated that the project will not be economically viable to extend up to Guntur. In the first phase, the metro rail will be constructed in two routes of 26 Kilometers. Sridharan will be preparing the comprehensive report of the project in 5 months. Tenders will be then called for and work will begin 4-5 months later.

If everything goes right the first phase of project is expected to be complete in 4 years and will cost 8000 Crores. While Center and State invests 20% and 35% in the project, the rest will be carried out with loans. Since the project is operated on tracks with erected pillars, the delays due to land acquisition can be avoided. Sridharan team will very soon tour Vishakapatnam and prepare a preliminary report for the project there. Comprehensive report for Vijayawada will be tabled in January 2015.
