How much is Baahubali expected to earn for its Malayalam version in Kerala going by the way it is promoted? In Kerala alone the film is expected to earn 6-7 Crores, which is like a big blockbuster for Kerala’s market. When that is the case of a dubbed movie, how much would we expect a star studded straight version would earn for the movie?
Sadly all the recent releases along with big films except one film ‘Madhura naranga’ tanked miserably at box-office in Kerala. The loss is estimated to be around Rs.100 Crores. For Kerala market, this is a huge amount and such big loss is going to rock the industry big way if not kept in check.
The present disastrous fate of Malayalam movies is due to, not so aggressive promotions like the dubbed films did namely ‘Baahubali’, ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Jurassic World’. The second reason is the heavy piracy that has become a big problem for the Cine Industry and how the recent biggest blockbuster ‘Premam’ was hit big way by it.
Moreover, the satellite rates of Malayalam films have been cut short by half the amount because of the brakes applied by the television houses. Sometimes the satellite rights are earning less than half the previous prize. Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce is presently mulling over the losses to the industry.
