Hyderabad Metro rail photo

The ongoing Metro works in Hyderabad is taking a heavy toll on the greenery of Hyderabad. There are several trees some of which are decades old in the route of the Metro trains and the construction company is chopping them. Adding to the necessity, there is also negligence on the part of officials as well, in many places where chopping just one branch will be sufficient, the trees are being chopped to half.

The Metro Rail officials alone uprooted 1,250 trees and trans-located 384. They, however, also planted over 10,000 saplings as part of a plantation drive. Irony is that most trans-located trees are taken to the outskirts from where they are not able to influence the pollution levels in the city. While there are orders to relocate the plants to surrounding areas, most of the times officials totally chop them off and one some of the times, for a namesake they trans-locate them to outskirts. The foul-cries of the environmentalists in the city are totally go unheard.
