Legend NTR liquor scheme

Kerala government had decided to implement the complete liquor prohibition in the state. However this prohibition will be implement phase by phase. In the first phase which will come in to immediate effect, government had decided to close down the liquor shops and bars on Sundays from April 2015. There are currently pending licences of 418 closed bars which will not be renewed and licences will be cancelled for remaining 312 bars.

From the next fiscal, the state would have bars only in the five-star category.The state also decided to reduce the outlets of the government-owned Bevco, the sole retail distributor of Indian made foreign liquor in Kerala, by 10 per cent every year. The state will aim for complete prohibition in the next 10 years. NT Rama Rao during his tenure brought in the Liquor prohibition and later several states followed. However in all the instances of the past, liquor prohibition in state lead to adverse effects like black-marketing from border states.
