Now this is surprising news not many would have imagined in their wildest dreams. Youngistaan, a remake of Telugu film Leader, has found a place in the Oscar short list of Best Foreign Film category.
Leader was the debut movie of hero Rana Daggubati which released way back in 2010. Director Sekhar Kammula got lot of prise as well as actor Rana for choosing such a different film for the debut. It had a decent run at the box office. The film was remade in Hindi as Youngistaan starring Jackie Bhagnani, son of noted Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani. Unlike the Telugu film the remake was a complete failure critically and commercially which is why many have expressed shock at it finding the place in the long list of Oscars.
Youngistaan however is not the official entry for the Oscars from India, rather it is an independent entry which anyone is entitled to send if they so wish to. Still it’s surprising that it made it to the long list. Final nominations of this category will be announced by Oscar committee on January 15, 2015.
