Drinking water to every house in Hyderabad a distant dream?Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had made a tall promise of providing drinking water tap connection to every house hold in Hyderabad. But this will be a distant dream due to the lack of required infrastructure. Even the officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) admit it.

The city has an acute shortage of storage reservoirs, supply trunk lines, distribution network and personnel to execute the grand project. A project with estimated cost of 1523 Crore was proposed some years ago but it was a non-starter due to lack of cooperation from the center.

Besides, the water board also has a huge shortage of manpower with over 1480 posts are vacant for years. Of the total 15 lakh households in the GHMC area, the board is currently providing drinking water to only 8.2 lakh households.
