Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao has focused on cleaning Hussainsagar lake which is the pride of Hyderabad. KCR is even mooting the idea of drying out Hussainsagar lake, clean it and have it filled with fresh water. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to find out the possibility of drying out the lake in upcoming summer.
The lake spread over 1,200 acres and a full tank level of 513.43 meters could be drained out digging down the two existing outlets of the lake to facilitate flow of water from the lake. The first step in this process will be to ensure the 50 million liters water per day that joins the lake has to be diverted.
There are several instances across the World where small lakes and rivers are dried up to clean them but experts say drying out lake of this size and water level is near to impossible. Also this entire exercise will take years and every time it rains during that period, water would keep accumulating. Also the sediment dug out from the lake will prove to stench the city.
