power rates hike telanganaOn the lines of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana government also rolled out a hike in Power tariffs. This hike announcement came hours after the Assembly budget sessions concluded so as to avoid opposition parties troubling the government. Just like in AP, Telangana government also spared common man from this hike.

People and cottage industries using less than 200 Units a month will not have any hike. Above that the tariffs will increase by 1.3% for domestic users and a total of 4% across all the users. Government had also decided to treat all the slabs above 400 Units usage as one unit which will mean the rich class will be burdened. Poultry will have a subsidy of Two Rupees per unit.

The government made sure that the hike should appear less than that of AP government’s. The total subsidy borne by the government is 4400 Crore and this hike will cover it up by 800 Crore. All in all, both the Telugu government went soft on common man while increasing the power charges.
