jayalalitha-verdict

It is known that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (till yesterday) Jayalalithaa was convicted in the disproportionate assets case and was sentenced to 4 years jail and 100 Crore penalty. The jail sentence will be a different story but even paying the fine will become a problem for the three time Chief Minister. Jayalalitha has been taking only One Rupee salary as the Chief Minister. She will now have to pay the entire 100 Crore penalty only through white money. It is not at all easy for her to show the amount in the white money drawing only one rupee as salary.

It is not yet clear if the seized gold and silver in the raids then will be evaluated in to the current prices and will be treated as some part of this penalty. On the other side, it is not clear if Jayalalithaa has to approach high court or Supreme Court for her bail petition. Since the special court is arranged in Bangalore on a purpose, it is not yet clear if Karnataka high court can be approached for the bail. Legal Experts say whatever may be the option, Jayalalithaa will have spend a week to 10 days in jail as there are many holidays over the next week.
