Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is all set to take a giant leap towards making history. ISRO has successfully test fired the Mars Orbiter Misson (MOM) Engine for the last time a short while ago. Scientists at ISRO have announced that it is a grand success and MOM will enter the Planet Mars Orbit on Wednesday. If the mission is successfully inserted in to the Mars Orbit then it will be a proud moment for the nation as only 21 of the total 51 mars missions have succeeded so far.
Also India will be the only country so far to do it in first attempt. A similar mission by China in 2011 failed to leave Earth’s orbit. If MOM succeeds, India will be the fourth country after US, Russia and Eurpose to send a probe to the Red Planet. Interestingly, NASA is also sending Maven spacecraft in to Mars orbit today. However NASA’s mission is almost 6 times costlier than Mangalyaan mission which costed India 450 Crore.
