manabi Bandopadhyay as principalCome this June 9th, India will have its first ever transgender college principal when Manabi Bandopadhyay takes charge of Krishnagar Women’s College in West Bengal. The third gender Manabi is currently serving as associate professor in Bengali at Vivekananda Satobarshiki Mahavidyalaya.

The College Service Commission identified the need of a principal with a strong personality to run the college smoothly and they feel Manabi is the right choice with out any doubt. Transgender rights associations applaud this move as a step to empower and motivate the community.

However Manabi is untouched by all this hype and humbly says she took up this offer because she knew it will help her stay close by her 92-year-old father who lives in Naihati and look after him. Even the college students are excited at this appointment.
