Here is a not so comfortable news for the internet users. The government in India is the second highest seeker of users’ private information. According to Google’s 10th Transparency Report, between January and June 2014, the government has made 2,794 requests across 5,002 user accounts. It is said that the government has also made several requests for content removal citing various reasons but the data is not revealed by the IT giants.

US government is in the first place in seeking the user’s private information. It has made 12,539 requests across 21,576 accounts for the same period. Interestingly google has received around 32000 data requests in this six months time and these two countries have together made more than 50% of those. Experts say Indian Cyber Laws are incapable of handling the surge of social networking and majority of these requests are made beyond the scope of law.
