i review - vikram in i reviewWhat is the film about?
I is a love story between a man from chawl Lingeswar (Vikram) and a super model Dia (Amy Jackson). How love develops between them and how Lingeswar becomes a hunchback and finally where it all ends is what the film is about.

How is Vikram’s performance?
Vikram as Lingeswar is the heart and soul of the film. His performance as a hunchback is heart touching where as a street smart guy with heart of gold he provides the soul of the film. The fact that even with a disfigured face Vikram is able to generate emotions should speak volumes about his capabilities as an actor. There is absolutely nothing to complain from his side.

i-review-director-Shankar
Direction By Shankar?
If performance by Vikram is the strength then director Shankar is the weakness of the film. He has a wafer thin plot on hand and he makes it an extremely tiresome watch with his screenplay. First half of the film begins well establishing all the important characters and the all important set up of the film. Once these are established the movie progresses on a predictable note and sluggish pace when ideally it should have taken off. The second half feels better in comparison as it has the emotion that is missing in the first half. Still the sheer predictability of the whole affair mars the little bit of enjoyment. The climax undoes even that little emotion built with its length.

On the whole Shankar let’s us down in writing department while maintaining his high directorial standards. Lots of issues from modeling to ads to drugs were touched but they fail to make any impact like it did previously in the director’s film due to poor writing and screenplay.

i-review-Amy-Jackson
Amy Jackson and others performance?
This is surely a memorable film for Amy Jackson. She has been used to her full potential in the film both glamorously as well as acting wise. The glamour is the dominant force without any doubt. Suresh Gopi is fine in the role given to him and he convinces us with his expression in crucial scenes. Upen Patel is well cast for his role but it ultimately doesn’t create any impact. Santhanam comes into play only towards the final half an hour of the film. There are couple of other characters too in similar vein as Upen Patel which end up in a familiar fashion too.
i-review-AR-Rahman
Music and other departments?
Music by AR Rahman is good but its the background score which creates the impact. He brings the energy and excitement into the dull proceedings. Cinematography by PC Sreeram is another major asset. Editor should have been ruthless on final copy. The film would have been lot better half an hour shorter. Choreography of songs is innovative but gets repetitive. Dialogues are ordinary.

Alternative take:
Director Shankar could have easily made this a better entertainer had he followed his usual style of narration that involves action, romance and an investigation.
Did I enjoy it?
No, barring few emotional sequences.

Will you recommend it?
No, certainly not in a theater unless it’s trimmed big time.
