The cost of the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail project has increased by 2500 to 3000 Crores due to increase in the costs of Construction material. This was revealed by the project Chief Executive and Managing director VB Gadgil. He also informed the media that the project is in crucial stage and there is decision taken yet on the change of Metro rail alignment. Gadgil informed the media that the change in the alignment is expected to increase the project cost by more than 1500 Crores.

Hyderabad Metro Rail project is currently 28% complete. The project is the world’s largest elevated Metro Rail PPP (Public Private Participation) project based on DBFOT basis (Design, Built, Finance, Operate and Transfer). The metro rail in Hyderabad is expected to carry 15 lakh passengers by 2016-17 covering 72 Km with stations at every one Km. The project is expected to ease the increasing traffic problems of the growing city.
