Uttarandhra is a hub of Pharmaceutical industries even before the state bifurcation. Once the state is divided, the region has got more significance in the Pharma sector because the pollution board is rejecting the licenses for Pharma companies in Hyderabad due to the increasing pollution levels. Currently Uttarandhra houses over 150 pharmaceutical units which provides direct and indirect employment to over 15,000.

However the industry primarily situated at Paravada, Pydi Bheemavaram, Achyuthapuram, Nakkapally and Chippada on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam is shaken to the core due to the Hudhud Cyclone. Many industries were damaged to the maximum extend, the asbestos ceilings were torn off and conveyor belts, boilers and other manufacturing equipment damaged and the raw material was completely washed away. According to the very early estimates, the loss incurred by Pharma sector could be about Rs 200 crore. According to the officials, Power supply to these industries can only be resumed after 10 days from now which means the loss will increase further.
