What could be a relief for state governments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Hyderabad High Court has supported the loan waiver for farmers. An NGO Lok Seva approached the high court to give a stay on the proposed Loan Waiver to farmers as it will kill the economy with a huge burden. However the high court disagreed with the petitioner and questioned, ‘What is wrong in doing loan waiver for farmers who feed the nation?’. The court asked the petitioner to stop looking in to the issue in political point of view and see the social angle in it.

The court also stated that there is nothing wrong morally in the Loan Waiver but it will not look in to the political correctness of the issue. The high court further asked the petitioner to file a new petition with more details if he feels his point is not addressed. It is known that Loan Waiver to farmers is one of the key poll promises of the ruling TDP and TRS parties in both the Telugu States.

However the burden of the waiver is so big that it will have very big impact on the state exchequers especially on Andhra Pradesh treasury which is already reeling under the burden of deficit burden. However both the governments are adamant to execute it any cost. Telangana government has started steps to ensure the waiver of One Lakh per family in the state while Andhra Pradesh government is committed to waive off one and half Lakhs per family in the truncated state.
