What is the film about?
Taking revenge through a robbery is what the film is basically about.
How is Sharukh khan’s performance?
Shah Rukh Khan is in his elements in the film. He does what he has been doing for many years now with ease. However there is no standout moment or sequence in the film performance wise be it comedy or emotion.
Direction By Farah Khan?
Farah Khan is known for over the entertainers that largely focus on comedy that is irreverent and silly. It is the same here as well. Luckily of the fans of the star the gags do click more often than not. The problem with the film therefore is not the gags but the overall tone of the film. It’s pretty inconsistent and shifts from serious revenge one to complete joke of a film to a patriotic saga and more. It is this shift in tone that is the major problem with the film and its engagement with the audience. It weakens the narrative despite the gags keeps flowing in. the direction therefore is a poor.
Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika and others performance?
Happy New Year is a true ensemble cast film if there ever was any. From Deepika Padukone to Abhishek Bachchan, from Sonu Sood to Boman Irani everyone gets their moment. Abhishek Bachchan has the best role clearly in this ensemble and he has lot o fun with it which is visible on screen. Deepika is good too from the moment she enters the screen. Sonu Sood begins well but is eventually relegated to backseat due to one dimensional character. Boman Irani is fine where as Vivan Shah is poor. Jackie Shroff does his part well even though it’s limited. There are a number of cameos and they all add to the film in terms of grandness.
Shekhar Ravjiani and other departments?
Music by Vishal and Sekhar is a big letdown. The background score is okay in comparison. Cinematography is superb, it gives the film and epic look and feel. Editing is fine however he should have been ruthless and trimmed film by at least half an hour. Choreography of songs is good as one would expect in a Farah Khan film. Dialogues are hilarious at times but largely lack punch and feel forced.

How was the dubbing?
The Telugu dubbing added hilarity to the already perceived hilarious film. Some of the dialogues and the accent with which they were dubbed add to the fun in an unintentional way. Since it’s a comedy film with entertainment as objective in first place, the dubbing helps in providing the fun intentionally or not.
Did I enjoy it?
Yes, in parts.
Will you recommend it?
If mindless fun is what you want, then surely, yes.
