property-tax-in-ghmc2The Intensive Household Survey conducted by Telangana government is reaping benefits for the Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation. With the data obtained by the survey, it is revealed that there are about seven lakh properties in Hyderabad which are un-assessed before the survey. The owners of these residential units have defaulted on property tax to GHMC to the tune of over Rs 200 crore.

According to the date with GHMC only 13.6 lakh units in the region were assessed for property tax but the Telangana Survey revealed that there are more than 20 lakh units in the state. 3.34 lakh defaulting properties fall under north and west zones of the GHMC. There are many commercial establishments in these defaulters as well. The identification of all these defaulters is a time consuming exercise so the corporation is concentrating first on commercial establishments which amount to higher Tax income. After assessing all the properties, the corporation expects its income to cross more than 2000 Crore from its income of 1020 Crore last year.
