Naidu-FIR-at-door-stepIt is known that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has started the ‘FIR at doorstep’ service few days ago to be a citizen friendly state. As a part of this, Police will be arriving at the doorstep of the complainant and register the First Information Report (FIR). This initiative will make sure that people will not be fear of coming down to the Police Stations with a complaint. It may be reminded that several cases in the state go unreported due to the fear of going to a Police station.

The scheme was launched on October 22nd, the Police Martyrs’ day by the Chief Minister himself. The first case registered under this program is that of the suicide of U Sanjeev Kumar, an auto rickshaw driver in Penamaluru. The case was registered by Penamaluru police at the deceased’s house. The police had handed over the copy of the first information report to the deceased man’s relatives on the spot.

One more radical change under this program is the implementation of a counselling body in every Police station which deals with family issues instead of dragging them to the courts and breaking relations. The counselling body comprises of a doctor, an advocate, an officer from the women’s welfare department as well as a social activist. The counselling body will deal with family related cases more with concern than rules.
