It is usual understanding between political parties particularly in AP that parties should make sure there is a unanimous election if an election is necessitated by death of a member and his kin is contesting in the bi-election.But Congress party had decided to contest Nandigama election where the by-poll is due the death of the Telugu Desam MLA, Tangirala Prabhakar and his daughter Soumya is contesting from the same seat in the bi-election.

Congress party decided to set the tradition aside and try its luck in Nandigama. Winning there will mean Congress will have sole representation in the 175 seats Assembly and the win will also boost the confidence of the party’s cadre and leaders. Congress is banking on the public anger on TDP due to the delay of Loan Waiver but if the plan backfires, the plight of Congress party will become further worse. It is not yet clear if YSR Congress will contest the bi-election or not. Nandigama is one of the strongholds of TDP in Krishna district. TDP did not lose this seat since 1994.
