rajinikanth-and-narendra modi

It is our Indian custom to welcome neighbours home who have been away from home for sometime. Superstar Rajnikanth did the same. When AIADMK chief Jayalalitha returned home after 21 days of jail, as a concerned good neighbour, the superstar sent his personal greetings via a letter welcoming puratchi Thalaivi home alongwith Diwali greetings.

This indeed this came as a big shock to the State BJP as the party has been trying to woo the star into politics since long. Be it his personal gesture to show warmth to his neighbour or secure the right environment for the release of his upcoming movie ‘Linga’, Rajnikanth’s gesture certainly is disturbing for BJP. But more was in store for BJP because their own party leader Maneka Gandhi too sent personal greetings to Jayalalitha welcoming home and expressing her grief over what has happened to Jaya.

Being in the office as a minister and expressing her admiration explicitly for the AIADMK leader, this was something BJP wasn’t looking forward too. While Rajnikanth’s gesture can be seen as the one to protect his business interests but Maneka Gandhi’s letter is certainly something the party might seriously rethink of. What probable implications could BJP draw from these two separate letters to their political rival?
