What is the film about?
As the makers have promoted, Anukshanam, the film, is about a serial killer who kills women for fun.
How is Machu Vishnu’s performance?
Manchu Vishnu is once again utilized very well by director Ram Gopal Varma. There is no over acting and everything is done with subtlety and intensity. The scene in the police station where Navadeep and Vishnu interact for the first time is an example for this performance. It should easily find a place among the best performances of the actor.
Direction By Ram gopal varma?
After some gap Ram Gopal Varma has come up with a subject that feels fresh for the viewers. However it has all the typical elements visible in his films, in place. He is a master of the medium and that is something that cannot be denied and we have stated it many times previously as well. Despite the technology he uses he brings the best possible result out of it. He maintains a tension element for most part and his simplistic explanation of a serial killer personality is good. The flat narration is only problem here.
Tejaswi, Madhu Shalini and others performance?
The main role in the film apart from hero is that of Surya as the serial killer. He has been well cast and that is half job done. The rest is taken care of the by the dubbing of the artist which evokes a feeling of fear. And lastly the actor does his bit in few sequences using his bulky physique to good effect. On par with this character is that of Revathi who helps in the investigation. She is ever dependable with her performance and she doesn’t disappoint here either. Tejaswini as doting wife is okay where as Madhushalini as reporter is good. Brahmanandam for a change is given a role that doesn’t engulf the proceedings and he does his bit in a clinical fashion. Supreeth is wasted.
Music and other departments?
There are no songs in the film and it’s all about the background score which is mighty fine. Editing could have been better in places. The lighting at few places is very poor. Dialogues are in typical RGV movies style where the complicated of things are explained in the most simplistic and almost childish sort of way. They are effective in establishing the psyche of a serial killer here.

Alternative take:
The film has all the elements of a serial killer thriller movie in place. The problem is that those elements don’t really create a thrill or carry an air of suspense around them. The way its all build up in the first half and the way, the serial killer is caught and what follows after it could have been handled in much gripping manner. Just that alone would have made the given subject more entertaining and fulfilling to watch.

Not entirely but in parts.
Will you recommend it?
Yes but with lots of apprehension.
