AP mulls temporary tax for outstation vehiclesAndhra Pradesh government is mulling on the idea of a minimal temporary tax for the outstation vehicles plying in the state. Currently out-of-state vehicles have to shell out life tax if they stay in AP for more than a month. There is a huge public outcry on this system.

And so this temporary tax idea is borrowed from Kerala. Accordingly a fixed taxation for vehicles i.e. Rs. 1,500 for a four-wheeler and Rs 250 for a two wheeler will be collected for 11 months. The uniform taxation is applicable whether the vehicle is a Maruti 800 or a Rolls Royce. Only between 11th and 12th month, they have to change their registration number.

Recently the transport department authorities toured Kerala and studied this mechanism. It will have to be now approved by the state government. The current RTA act will have to be also amended for this purpose.
