As long as Dhana Lakshmi had been the Censor Board Officer in Hyd, she almost became like a terror to producers suggesting cuts and exercising iron leg on obscenity and violence. G.Srinivas Rao who succeeded didn’t himself prove a strong officer like her but instead got caught red handed taking bribe from a producer.
Since then there is no Censor Board Officer hence leading to delay in certifying films ready for release. Why, can’t government appoint an officer immediately to the effect? It can’t really do immediately because the process of appointing CBFC officers is quite a long one.
Till a special officer is appointed for Hyderabad CBFC, director of Press Information Bureau T. Vijay Kumar Reddy is given the additional charge as CBFC officer. This didn’t solve the problem because he now has two portfolios to execute his duties.
Besides the delay in appointment, corruption has been a cause of worry for CBFC as there are no well laid definitions for controversial issues like obscenity and violence and sometimes film makers are left at the mercy of the CBFC while getting their films certified.
