Vishakapatnam becomes the highest LED installed city in the World in a short span of time as the Energy Saving Corporation of India (ESCI) installed 96000 new LED bulbs across the city after the Hudhud cyclone. Central government has liberally diverted all the LED bulbs it provides across the country to Vishakapatnam after the Hudhud.
The bulbs were installed by the ESCI in association with its contract companies. They will also maintain them for the next seven years and the bills collected from this lights will go to ESCI that will share 50 per cent of it with the companies supplying the bulbs and maintaining them. However, the AP government is negotiating with ESCI to share at least 10 per cent of that with it.
Andhra Pradesh government has not spend a single rupee on this bulbs but the 50% energy saving the lights bring will be a bonus to the state. The government is planning to bring down the Prime Minister to inaugurate the facility.
