teachers suspended in medak district24 government teachers in Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s home district, Medak were suspended alleging that they are negligent in their duty and awarded Zero marks to students in SSC internal assessment (IA) in five schools. The state government suspended them alleging that they did not assess the students’ performance during the year and awarded “zero marks” though the students were not at fault.

Headmasters of these five schools also got memos for negligence. The teachers said that the students did not have the required 70% attendance needed for the internal assessment. However government did not buy the argument by asking them if that was the case, why were SSC hall tickets issued to them and they were allowed for the written exams?

The 1.5 Lakh teacher community in the state which until now had the strong support of the government were shaken up with this stringent action. Earlier students used to have 100 marks for the written exam but for the first time this year,80 marks were allotted to written exams and 20 for internal assessment in every paper. Students have to obtain at least seven marks in internal assessment and will be failed even if they secure 80 out of 80 in the written exam and get less than seven marks in internals.
