On this day exactly 15 years ago Mahesh Babu arrived with a bang as a ‘Prince’ literally with Rajakumarudu. Ever since then he has been ruling the hearts of his fans and winning many new admirers with each new release of his. Here is a brief look at the journey completed and finally the big challenge that lies ahead.
A closer look at his 15 year long career would tell us how difficult it has been for the actor to first transform into a star and then later become a Superstar that he is today synonymous with. After the super success of his debut as hero, it took Mahesh Babu few years to prove himself as a star. The moment arrived with Okkadu in 2003 , a film which first showcased his box office power. However it was Pokiri which firmly established the ‘Prince’ as a Superstar in the minds of audience and he has never looked back since.
It wasn’t all highs post Pokiri though as the star put his fans under lots of stress due to a long sabbatical. It was frustrating for many but had they known what was to unleash after this break may be they would have been a happier lot with the long absence. When Mahesh Babu returned after the long break with Khaleja there was remarkable change in the actor in terms of body language and style which took everyone by surprise. He was more confident on screen and it helped in improving his screen presence big time. The result of this new found confidence was seen through a purple patch that lasted till Sankranthi this year.
Looking at future, Superstar Mahesh Babu is undoubtedly the number one contender for the number one slot in Telugu cinema and therein lies his biggest challenge ahead. Mind you, here we are talking about only the two states and not overseas as there is very little doubt about who the top star is there. Its in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where the question mark over the number still continues and Mahesh Babu is the one that looks like a threat to that position. With films of Srinu Vytla, Koratala Siva, Puri Jagannadh and Trivikram Srinivas etc in his kitty, Mahesh Babu glorious run is sure to extend further in the coming years. Will it enable him to be the number one remains to be seen.
