#SaveKBR for good lung space in HyderabadThe state government’s decision to hack down several trees in KBR Park for the proposed express ways in the city, did not go well with people in Hyderabad. A strong citizens’ movement is gathering steam offline and online to counter the government’s move. Several netizens have started #SaveKBR campaign on Twitter and Facebook.

The campaign is being flooded with posts and videos from green activists trying to create awareness about the issue among users. In the offline campaign, green enthusiasts are standing outside the park entrance from as early as 6 in the morning to inform joggers and walkers about the government’s plan about felling of trees.

KBR Park is all set to lose 1,900 of its large and small trees located inside and around the park. This is to facilitate the construction of flyovers around the park for smooth flow of traffic to and from the IT and financial districts into the city as part of the SRDP. KBR Park is a nation park and it can not be touched without permission from the Union ministry of environment and forests. But the state government and the corporation are confident of getting the necessary permissions.
